Fay Canyon Trail - Sedona 03/13/2013
Our hike on Fay Canyon was purely accidental. We had planned on hiking Soldiers Pass but the small parking lot was overflowing, as were several others. DUH - Spring Break - not good. So we went to the visitors center and grabbed a list of hikes in Sedona and this one sounded interesting.
Usually we avoid trails that say "easy" because that often means crowded, but we lucked out. Although short the views are amazing. As an added bonus there is an old ruin at the back of the canyon that is in remarkably good shape. All in all we were very glad with our choice.
The start of our little hike
Some usual great Sonoran views
There is an arch in that cliff face
The closer you get the more daylight you see in the arch
As usual, a balancing rock
We wondered just how thin this cap was
George - out on the edge of the rocks again
We say it is a face with a swatch over one eye
Tell me that is not a large lizard head
We are down in the bottom of the canyon looking up
The 3 Pillars
A ship - hopefully not from Carnival Cruise Lines
A little like Antelope Canyon
That is the back of the canyon - our destination
We kept hearing a flute and finally noticed this couple perched on top of a rock near the back of the canyon.
Our musician and his friend
We are still scrambling on rocks trying to figure out just how to get back to the ruins
Finally, the ruins are in sight
These are in good shape for being located in such an easily accessible place
Looking back down the valley from the ruins.
